Custer Crazy Horse Campground is located in Custer, South Dakota, and makes a convenient home base for exploring the southern Black Hills. The campground is near Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial and many of the roads and attractions riders come to the Black Hills to experience.
Camping options include RV sites with full hookups, water and electric sites, tent camping and cabins. The campground also provides access to bathrooms and showers, with picnic tables and fire pits included at campsites.
We’ve personally stayed at Custer Crazy Horse Campground during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally while camping in a toy hauler with friends. The location put us in a beautiful part of the Black Hills and close to some incredible riding.
For us, the tradeoff was the distance from downtown Sturgis. We enjoy staying for the nighttime activities and entertainment during the rally, which meant riding back after dark when temperatures had dropped and wildlife could be on the roads.
If your Sturgis trip is focused more on riding and exploring the Black Hills and you don’t need to be close to downtown every night, this area may be a great fit. If you plan to spend a lot of your evenings in Sturgis, we’d recommend considering the nighttime ride when deciding where to stay.
